The company said that this updated model is powered with a high-performance, twin-turbo diesel engine capable of 205 hp and 420 Nm of torque.

Our mission was to develop a modern diesel engine – with the benefits that go with them – which also meets the emission EURO 5. This is yet another step in our determination to reduce the combustion engine’s environmental impact, at the same time as we give customers a truly quiet and sophisticated engine with excellent performance. However, the refreshed S80 should not just be seen, it has to be experienced.”

Volvo said that this new model is Euro V compliant and would deliver a combined fuel efficiency of 13 kmpl.

The D5 engine has several advanced technical features. With the latest Twin Turbo and Peizo high-pressure technology, the inspiring five-cylinder will be high on performance and low on fuel consumption. A maintenance free diesel particulate filter effectively reduces soot particles in exhaust gases and advanced emission control contributes to low nitrogen oxide level – the new D5 already comply with stringent, upcoming Euro 5 exhaust emission requirements. Volvo is the only car company in India to offer the DPF feature across all its diesel models from the beginning of its operations in the country.

New Volvo80 model comes with technologies like:

The S60 is based on the Ford EUCD platform underneath the body shell that is also used by the current Mondeo.

Volvo is promising that the S60 will be the “sportiest and most dynamic Volvo ever,” and the project’s engineers are understood to have been working on the driveability of the S60 since the project’s inception.

Unlike the previous S60, the newcar is more conventionally sized to give Volvo a true rival for the likes of the BMW 3-series. The old car was awkwardly-sized between a 3-series and 5-series, and was based on a cut-down V70 platform, although it was a sales success in the first few years of the car’s life. There was no estate version, either, but expect the new S60 to get an estate variant in 2011.

The car will also be the first Volvo to be available with the firm’s new Pedestrian Detection technology, which can “see” pedestrians in the road and automatically apply the brakes to stop the car if the driver doesn’t react quickly enough.

The S60 is also significant as it will be one of the cars Volvo is hoping to boost sales in the Indian market with new s60.
